In short: WorkChop is a technology marketplace, not the plumber, electrician, or Pro who does the work — that agreement is between you and the Pro. See Section 2 for what that means for you.

01About These Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the WorkChop mobile application, website, platform, features, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").

WorkChop is a Nigerian skills marketplace designed to connect customers seeking services ("Clients") with service providers ("Pros") who offer skills and services such as plumbing, electrical work, air-conditioning repairs, installations, maintenance, cleaning, construction-related services, and other permitted services.

The initial launch and pilot market for WorkChop is the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria, although certain WorkChop-administered opportunities may be made available more widely.

By creating an account, accessing, or using WorkChop, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and other rules or policies displayed within the Platform.

If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not use WorkChop.

02Important Notice About WorkChop's Role

WorkChop is primarily a technology and marketplace platform. WorkChop provides technology that allows Clients and Pros to discover one another, communicate, create job engagements, submit and accept quotations, make payments through an approved payment processor, track job status, provide ratings, and raise disputes.

2.1 WorkChop is not the service provider

WorkChop is not the plumber, electrician, technician, contractor, cleaner, artisan, consultant, or other person who performs work for a Client. The underlying service agreement is between the Client and the Pro. A Pro is independently responsible for:

  • the service offered, the quotation given, and the quality and standard of the work;
  • compliance with applicable laws;
  • required permits, licences, registrations, qualifications and professional standards;
  • materials supplied, tools and equipment used, and the safety of the work performed;
  • statements made to the Client; and
  • any damage, injury, loss or claim caused by the Pro or the Pro's work.

2.2 No agency or employment relationship

Nothing in these Terms creates an employment, partnership, franchise, joint venture, agency, fiduciary, or other representative relationship between WorkChop and a Pro. A Pro is an independent service provider. A Client is not an employee or agent of WorkChop.

WorkChop does not guarantee that any particular Pro will be available, qualified, suitable, honest, competent, licensed or capable of completing a particular job.

03Eligibility

You may use WorkChop only if you are at least 18 years old, have legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement, provide accurate registration information, provide the information required for identity and account verification, agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy, and your use of the Platform is lawful.

WorkChop may refuse registration or restrict access where it reasonably believes that a person does not meet these requirements.

04User Roles

4.1 Client

A Client uses WorkChop to post jobs, communicate with Pros, receive quotations, engage Pros, pay for services, monitor job progress, confirm completion, rate Pros, and use other Client features.

4.2 Pro

A Pro uses WorkChop to create a professional profile, indicate skills, respond to available jobs, provide quotations, perform services, receive payment through the Platform's approved payment arrangement, obtain ratings, and build a reputation on the Platform.

WorkChop may permit certain users to access both roles where the Platform supports such functionality.

05Account Registration

You must provide complete and accurate information when creating your account, including full name, telephone number, email address, residential or business address, National Identification Number (NIN), profile photograph, location information, bank account or payout information where applicable, skills and experience, professional or skill certificates, and other information required for account verification or payment processing.

You must keep your information accurate and update it when it changes. You must not create an account using another person's identity or information.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for activity carried out through your account, and must notify WorkChop promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

06NIN and Identity Verification

6.1 NIN requirement

WorkChop may require every user to provide a valid 11-digit National Identification Number (NIN) as part of registration and identity verification, used for identity verification, fraud prevention, platform safety, compliance, and account management.

6.2 Manual verification

WorkChop's "ID Verified" badge represents a good-faith verification process carried out by authorized WorkChop personnel — a manual cross-check against a lawful and authorized NIMC verification process or other legally permitted method. It is not an automated NIMC government API integration unless WorkChop expressly states otherwise.

6.3 Meaning of ID Verified

An "ID Verified" badge means only that WorkChop completed its stated verification process with a satisfactory result at the time. It does not mean WorkChop guarantees the person's identity, trustworthiness, qualification, licensing, or lack of criminal history, or that supplied information remains permanently accurate.

WorkChop is not responsible for fraudulent, false, stolen, borrowed, manipulated, or otherwise inaccurate information supplied by a user.

6.4 Consent and lawful verification

Where consent or another lawful basis is required, the user agrees to provide the required authorization. WorkChop will not represent that it has access to NIMC systems or records beyond lawfully available verification rights and channels.

6.5 Verification may be withdrawn

WorkChop may remove, suspend, or refuse an ID Verified badge where the underlying information cannot be confirmed, verification expires, information changes, fraud is suspected, the account is suspended, verification was improperly completed, or removal is required for legal, security, regulatory, or operational reasons.

07Pro Certification and Skill Verification

Pros may upload certificates, licences, training records, portfolios, or other supporting documents. Where available, WorkChop may award a "Certificate Verified" badge meaning the document was reviewed and found satisfactory — not a guarantee of authenticity, continued validity, competence, workmanship, or licensing compliance.

WorkChop may remove a badge where a certificate is discovered to be false, expired, misleading, altered, invalid, or otherwise unreliable.

08Pro Skill Levels

WorkChop may display a Pro's skill level from 1 to 5: 1 – Beginner, 2 – Developing, 3 – Intermediate, 4 – Advanced, 5 – Expert — determined from self-reported experience, certificates, completed jobs, ratings, work history, and platform activity.

A skill level is an internal and marketplace reputation indicator only — not a professional licence, government certification, guarantee of competence, warranty of workmanship, or authorization to perform every service associated with the displayed skill. Clients remain responsible for deciding whether a Pro is suitable for their particular job.

09Job Postings

A Client may create a job posting describing the type of work required, location, photos, preferred timing, estimated budget, and other information required by WorkChop.

A Client must provide truthful information and must not intentionally misrepresent the condition, scope, location, urgency, or requirements of the job. WorkChop may remove or reject job postings that violate these Terms, applicable law, or Platform rules.

10Quotations

Pros may submit quotations covering labour, materials, transportation, inspection charges, and expected completion time. Unless otherwise stated, a quotation becomes binding when the Client accepts it through the Platform and the job engagement is created.

WorkChop is not responsible for errors, omissions, miscalculations, unreasonable estimates, or disagreements concerning the price quoted by a Pro.

11Inspection and Transport Fee

Where a job requires the Pro to inspect the location or equipment before quoting, WorkChop may require the Client to pay an inspection/transport fee of ₦3,000. The fee is payable through the Platform, covers the Pro's inspection activity, is credited toward the final job amount if the Client hires that Pro, is held pending confirmation the Pro arrived, and is otherwise non-refundable if the Client elects not to proceed.

WorkChop may alter this amount or offer different promotional arrangements by notice within the Platform.

12Payment Processing

All monetary amounts on WorkChop are expressed in Nigerian Naira (₦) unless otherwise stated. WorkChop uses an approved third-party payment service provider to process payments, with channels that may include debit/credit card, bank transfer, USSD, and direct bank payment.

12.1 No storage of card details

WorkChop does not intentionally store users' complete card numbers, CVV numbers, or other sensitive card credentials on its own systems. Payment information is processed through the payment processor's infrastructure, subject to that provider's separate terms and policies.

13Platform Fee

The Client shall pay a flat ₦500 WorkChop platform fee per job engagement, unless WorkChop displays a different fee before payment. This fee is separate from the Pro's service charge, materials, inspection/transport charges, applicable taxes, payment-processing charges where separately disclosed, and any other amount shown before confirmation.

14Secure Holding / Payment Hold Arrangement

14.1 Purpose

WorkChop may provide a payment-hold feature ("Secure Holding") designed to reduce payment risk between Clients and Pros. For a job, the Client may be required to deposit a percentage of the agreed job cost upfront, depending on the job configuration displayed by WorkChop.

14.2 Payment processor involvement

The payment-hold and release process is implemented through WorkChop's own secure ledger, processed via WorkChop's approved third-party payment processor.

WorkChop does not represent that it is itself a bank, deposit-taking institution, licensed payment service provider, or independent custodian of customer funds. WorkChop's payment processes are subject to applicable Nigerian financial-services laws, regulatory requirements, and the terms and capabilities of the payment provider used for the transaction.

14.3 Release of job funds

Subject to the payment-provider's processing rules, funds allocated to the Pro may be released when the Client confirms the job has been completed, or when the Pro marks the job complete and the Client remains inactive for 72 hours afterward — intended to prevent a Client from indefinitely delaying payment.

14.4 Disputed jobs

Where a valid dispute is raised before release, WorkChop may suspend, delay, or otherwise manage release of the relevant amount in accordance with the Platform's dispute process and the payment provider's capabilities.

14.5 No interest

Users are not entitled to interest, investment return, or other financial benefit from funds paid for a WorkChop job while pending release.

15Off-Platform Transactions

A Pro must not deliberately move a WorkChop job off-platform to avoid WorkChop fees, payment controls, verification processes, ratings, or other Platform requirements — for example, requesting direct payment, bypassing a Platform payment, cancelling and completing a job privately, or encouraging a Client to conceal an off-platform transaction.

Where a Pro is reasonably found to have deliberately circumvented the Platform, WorkChop may impose a ₦1,000 or more platform penalty, deduct amounts from eligible earnings or credits where legally permissible, and/or impose other account sanctions, and the Pro may lose associated on-platform reputation benefits including ratings, job-count credit, and skill-level progression.

16Cancellation and Refunds

16.1 Before quote acceptance

A Client may cancel a job before a Pro's quotation is accepted, subject to applicable Platform rules. Where a job-posting fee has been charged, cancellation may result in forfeiture of one-half of the fee as a processing charge.

16.2 After quote acceptance

Once a quotation has been accepted, the Client may not cancel through ordinary self-service cancellation — any request must go through the Platform's dispute-resolution process, considering whether the Pro has commenced work, whether materials were purchased, cause of delay, attendance, scope changes, and safety issues.

16.3 Refund method

Where a refund is approved, the method may depend on the payment provider, transaction status, applicable law, and available payment functionality. A platform credit or WorkChop Balance adjustment is not the same as a card or bank-payment refund.

17WorkChop Balance (Platform Credits)

WorkChop may maintain an internal ledger for each user, referred to as the "WorkChop Balance," reflecting credits and debits for administrative adjustments, compensation, promotions, refunds, penalties, or other purposes. The WorkChop Balance is only an internal record of transaction balances — unless expressly stated otherwise, it is not a bank account, deposit account, electronic money or e-money wallet, or stored-value facility; it does not earn interest, and it cannot be sold or transferred to another person — it may only be used for eligible WorkChop transactions.

18Dispute Resolution Within WorkChop

Either the Client or Pro may report a problem relating to an active job through the Platform, providing photographs, messages, receipts, quotations, completion evidence, or other supporting material.

WorkChop administrators may review job details, quotations, messages, payment status, photographs, timestamps, completion records, ratings, and user reports, and may in its discretion dismiss or uphold the complaint, penalize a party, suspend or restrict an account, remove a rating, credit a WorkChop Balance, allow the job to proceed, end the engagement, or take another reasonably available action.

WorkChop's administrative dispute decision is final for the Platform's internal process, with no internal appeal unless expressly provided — though this does not prevent a party from exercising rights available under applicable Nigerian law, including before a court or through an agreed arbitration process.

19User Responsibilities

Users must use WorkChop lawfully, provide truthful information, protect their accounts, communicate respectfully, attend agreed appointments, pay agreed amounts, perform agreed services honestly, respect other users' property and privacy, comply with health and safety requirements, maintain required licences or qualifications, and provide information reasonably required for dispute resolution.

20Pro Responsibilities

A Pro is solely responsible for determining whether they are qualified and legally permitted to perform a particular service, and must not claim qualifications they lack, upload fraudulent certificates, impersonate another professional, misrepresent previous work, accept unsafe work, overcharge through deception, damage Client property, request unlawful payments, or work contrary to applicable laws or safety standards.

21Client Responsibilities

Clients must provide accurate job information, disclose known hazards, provide reasonable site access, not knowingly request unlawful work, make agreed payments, communicate respectfully, avoid unsafe conditions where reasonably possible, and not manipulate ratings or dispute outcomes.

22Prohibited Conduct

A user must not use WorkChop to commit fraud, steal, launder money, impersonate another person, submit false identity or certificate information, harass or discriminate against another user, arrange unlawful services, distribute malware, compromise an account, scrape Platform data, manipulate ratings, abuse the dispute process, circumvent Platform fees, facilitate off-platform transactions to defeat Platform controls, use another person's account, create multiple accounts dishonestly, or otherwise violate applicable law.

23Safety and Emergency Situations

WorkChop is not an emergency response service. Users must contact the appropriate emergency, security, medical, fire, or government service where immediate assistance is required, and use appropriately qualified professionals for high-risk work. WorkChop does not guarantee that a Pro is suitable for an emergency or high-risk job.

24Ratings and Reviews

Reviews must be truthful, based on genuine experience, relevant, and free from threats, discrimination, harassment, or misleading information. Users must not exchange money, gifts, or other benefits for false ratings. WorkChop may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms or is reasonably suspected to be fraudulent or abusive.

25Location Services and Geo-Matching

WorkChop may collect and process location information to identify nearby Pros, match Clients with Pros, estimate availability, improve routing, and prevent fraud or misuse. The initial operating model uses a matching radius of approximately 5–10 kilometres; selected challenge jobs may be available nationwide. Location data is processed per the WorkChop Privacy Policy and applicable law.

26Data Protection and Privacy

WorkChop processes personal data in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 ("NDPA"). Full details of what data WorkChop collects, why, lawful bases, sharing, retention, security, rights, transfers, and cookies are contained in the separate WorkChop Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms by reference.

27Data Security

WorkChop implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, though no online service can guarantee absolute security. Users are responsible for safeguarding passwords, devices, and authentication codes, and must notify WorkChop immediately of suspected compromise.

28Bank Account and Payout Information

Pros must provide accurate bank or payout details for settlement. WorkChop is not responsible for a payout made to incorrect account details supplied by the user, except to the extent liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

29Third-Party Services

WorkChop may integrate with payment processors, mapping providers, identity-verification services, cloud hosting, analytics, and other technology providers. Your use of a third-party service is subject to that provider's own terms — WorkChop is not responsible for systems it does not control.

30Intellectual Property

WorkChop and its licensors own or control the Platform and its associated intellectual property, including the WorkChop name, logo, software, designs, and documentation. Users may not copy, reverse engineer, distribute, or commercially exploit any part of the Platform without express permission.

31User Content

You remain responsible for content you upload. By submitting content, you grant WorkChop a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, and use it to operate and improve the Platform, and represent that you have the rights necessary to submit it.

32Communications

WorkChop may communicate via push notifications, SMS, email, telephone, in-app messaging, and other electronic methods. Users agree to receive operational communications required for account management, jobs, payments, safety, verification, disputes, and security.

33Suspension and Termination

WorkChop may suspend, restrict, or terminate an account where it reasonably believes a user has committed fraud, provided false information, engaged in off-platform circumvention, harassed another user, abused the dispute process, manipulated ratings, breached these Terms, or otherwise materially abused the Platform.

34Account Deletion

A user may request account deletion through available settings. Deletion operates as a soft deletion — WorkChop may retain records where necessary for accounting, audit, tax, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal claims, or regulatory compliance.

35Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by Nigerian law, WorkChop is provided "as is" and "as available." WorkChop does not warrant continuous availability, that every Pro is competent or licensed, that a Client will pay, that job or identity information is accurate, or that the Platform is free from errors or security incidents. WorkChop does not guarantee the quality, safety, legality, or fitness of services performed by Pros.

36Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Nigerian law, WorkChop shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses arising from services performed by a Pro, property damage, personal injury, fraud, disputes between users, payment or telecommunications failures, inaccurate location data, or loss of profit. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under Nigerian law.

37Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify WorkChop and its owners, staff, and partners from claims arising from your use of the Platform, breach of these Terms, unlawful conduct, User Content, or negligence — excluding loss caused by WorkChop's own liability that cannot lawfully be transferred to you.

38Force Majeure

WorkChop is not responsible for failure or delay caused by circumstances outside its reasonable control, including natural disasters, pandemics, war, government action, telecommunications or internet outages, power failure, cyberattacks, or banking/payment-system disruptions.

39Changes to These Terms

WorkChop may update these Terms from time to time, notifying users through in-app notifications, email, or website notices where material changes are made. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance, to the extent permitted by law.

40Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

41Dispute Resolution

WorkChop encourages users to first use the Platform's internal dispute-resolution process. Where a dispute remains unresolved, the parties may seek resolution through validly agreed arbitration, or a court of competent jurisdiction in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. Nothing here prevents a party from seeking urgent injunctive relief from a competent court.

42No Waiver

A failure by WorkChop to enforce any provision immediately does not waive its right to enforce that provision later. A waiver is effective only where expressly made.

43Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed only to the extent necessary, and the remaining provisions continue in full force.

44Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the WorkChop Privacy Policy and any expressly incorporated policies, constitute the entire agreement between you and WorkChop concerning use of the Platform.

45Assignment

WorkChop may assign or transfer its rights under these Terms as part of a restructuring, merger, or sale of assets. A user may not transfer their account or rights without WorkChop's prior written consent.

46Relationship Between These Terms and Individual Job Agreements

A specific Client-Pro engagement may contain additional terms — scope, price, materials, timing, payment schedule — which govern that particular job to the extent they do not conflict with these Terms or applicable law.

47Taxes and Legal Compliance

Each user is responsible for complying with tax, licensing, registration, health and safety, and other legal obligations applicable to their activities. A Pro is responsible for determining whether their income is subject to applicable Nigerian taxes or registration requirements.

48Anti-Fraud and Compliance Monitoring

WorkChop may monitor Platform activity for fraud prevention, identity verification, payment security, and abuse prevention, and may restrict or suspend transactions where it reasonably suspects unlawful activity, cooperating with competent authorities where legally required.

49Local Pilot and Service Availability

WorkChop's initial pilot is intended for AMAC, Abuja. Not all services, features, or Pros may be available in every area, and WorkChop may expand or reduce geographic coverage without guaranteeing availability anywhere in particular.

50Challenge Jobs

WorkChop may create special administrator-posted "Challenge Jobs," which may be open nationwide, have special eligibility or pricing, or be subject to additional terms — users will be informed before participating.

51Electronic Acceptance

By selecting "I Agree," creating an account, or continuing to use the Platform after being presented with these Terms, you acknowledge you have read and understood them, agree to be legally bound, and that electronic acceptance has the same effect as written acceptance to the extent permitted by Nigerian law.
